Important Notice: Don't Fall Victim to E-mail Schemes
We recently became aware of "phishing" e-mails claiming to be sent from Rainier Pacific Bank requesting you update your account information online at the link contained in the email. These websites may include copied or "spoofed" pages from legitimate websites to further trick consumers into thinking they are responding to an authentic request. If you received such an e-mail, it was not from Rainier Pacific Bank. Please do not respond to that e-mail or any of its links, rather it should be deleted.
Protect yourself from phishing scams:
Be aware that phishing e-mails frequently use new and innovative ways to trick recipients into providing log in credentials and confidential information or into unleashing malicious code.
Do not follow links in unsolicited e-mails. Instead, use web browser bookmarks or type your institution's Web address into the Internet browser address bar to access your bank's website or online banking services.
Do not open unsolicited or unexpected e-mail attachments claiming to be from a financial institution. As a precaution, call the financial institution using an appropriate telephone number, such as one from an account statement, to validate the e-mail and attached file before opening any attachment
Always ensure your anti-virus software is up-to-date.
Regularly review your accounts online and immediately report any discrepancies to your institution.
Be mindful that financial institutions generally deliver notices to consumers by mail about changes in account terms and conditions unless the consumer previously agreed to receive the notice electronically.
While we will occasionally send you information and updates relative to your banking relationship via e-mail, Rainier Pacific will never ask you to provide sensitive information, such as account numbers, user names, and passwords through links in an e-mail. If you receive such an e-mail in the future requesting this type of information, immediately delete the e-mail, do not respond to it or any of its links.
At Rainier Pacific Bank, we continually enhance our security to protect your personal information, yet fraudulent e-mails and phishing scams attempting to gain information about you and your bank accounts can occur anytime. We want to ensure we educate our customers about what they should do to protect their identity and personal banking information from theft and fraud.
As always, if you are ever concerned that you have received or responded to a phishing e-mail, or have questions about an e-mail that appears to come from us please call us toll-free at (800) 228-2858 anytime. We're here to help.
